High Throughput Screening Test Using P450 Technology
NanoBioDesign (NBD) is developing a new range of P450 assays based upon its patented ‘molecular lego’ approach to protein engineering. By combining the engineered P450’s with an electrochemical array the simple and easy to use assay produces high information content data in 30 minutes.
The pressure on the drug discovery industry to produce new and safe drugs is immense.
NBD believe that their P450 technology platform has the potential to assist the drug discovery industry in obtaining high quality information in a cost effective manner allowing potential problems to be identified earlier in the drug discovery process.
In a recent FDA white paper “Innovation or Stagnation” (1) points out that only 8% of candidates entering clinical studies are likely to go on and reach the market. This compares with an historic level of 14%.
The report highlights that the main causes of failure are safety problems and lack of effectiveness.
The need to develop new tools to predict safety problems is seen as critical if expensive pre and post drug marketing failures are to be avoided.
It is estimated that a 10% improvement in predicting failure before the chemical entity enters clinical trials could save $100million development cost per drug”.
